Just want to share some of the most enjoyable recent eats I've had because a long overdue post is in the offing and I felt I've been in this blog posting slump for so long I just need to put a stop to it. =)
YDG Coffee

skillet chocolate chip cookie & flat white |
I first learned about YDG Coffee from a Facebook page suggestion. They have two branches, one in Paseo de Magallanes and one in Mandala Park. I naturally chose to visit their branch in Mandala Park since it's nearer from my place.
I was told that YDG Coffee branch here in Mandala Park is the newest and much more spacious compared to their Paseo de Magallanes branch however the food selection are quite limited since they're still on a dry-run when I visited.
I was actually yearning for a simple dessert and a cup of coffee to go with it but I what I was given was a mouthful of sweet treat to devour just by me. The Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie is a little staggering since it's big enough to share by two people but I managed to eat it all myself. A delicious synergy of hot and cold, the cookie is slightly chewy with generous bits of chocolate melding with the cool, creamy ice cream slowly melting atop. It's pure bliss, I tell you.

beginner set |
After a failed attempt to try out the super hyped up cafe in Uptown Mall (because of some lame excuse that they're not letting people since the entire restaurant was reserved), I decided to bring myself (and my wounded heart for that matter!) to Kushikatsu Daruma. Little skewers of fried food breaded to perfection. Deliciousness further intensified when you dip it in their signature sauce. Although I really need to fight the urge not to double dip (and to make another round of order, if I may add). I got the Beginner Level on this visit and I might try to be adventurous and try the Advanced Level next time.

catchy interiors |
Right after eating several deep fried food on skewers at Kushikatsu Daruma, I still felt that my hunger is not yet fully satiated. I decided to go to SM Aura to devour a heavier meal at Ping Pong Diplomacy. While waiting for my order, I regaled myself with the restaurant aesthetically pleasing interiors.
surf and turf noodles |
fortune balls and egg tart |
I did enjoyed the Surf & Turf Noodles, slippery char siew coated with sweet spicy sauce strewn with mussels and a sous-vide egg crowned atop the dish. Pierce the yolk and let it meld with the rest of the noodles and all I can think about is wishing my home is right next to SM Aura so I could enjoy this exceptional noodle dish as often as I wanted. I washed it down with a Red Bean Coconut Smoothie. 'Cause I'm all for a red bean dessert in whatever texture or form.
For dessert, I originally wanted to try the Jicama Pie but it's not available so I content myself with Fortune Balls, glutinous rice balls with outlandish flavors such as ginger, black sesame and taro on a delectable pistachio cream; and Original Egg Tart with the most flakiest crust, even better I'd say than the egg tarts I'd tried at Wa Ying.

hazelnut chocolate smoothie and turtle pie |
It's been a long day. And after eating a lousy meal in a restaurant at Jupiter St in Makati, (and feeling a little devastated by it, truth be told) I'm yearning for something that would cheer me up before I head home. I thought why not buy a book since I've been so busy lately reading my eyes out whenever I have free time (which is partly one of the reasons why I'm very inconsistent in updating my blog). But I found nothing that interests me at the Booksale store branch in Megamall. By that time, I was already decided to hail a public utility vehicle and go straight home but it occurred to me while walking along San Miguel Avenue that there's a new coffee shop in Pearl Drive with Alice in Wonderland as its main theme.
As you can see on the photos above, every nook and cranny this coffee shop has a touch of whimsy to it. It's gorgeous! My inner child is jumping up and down with glee. But I have to rein myself in so I would be sane enough to get to the job at hand, which is to try their dessert and coffee. I decided to have the Hazelnut Chocolate Smoothie and the Turtle Pie. I haven't encountered a turtle pie that I didn't like. And this one from Alice Tea Salon is definitely a knock-out. It's sooo good!

Little Owl
Little Owl's interior |
eggs benedict |
chocolate waffles |
cheesecake w/ mixed berries |
I first came across Little Owl from a Facebook page suggestion a few months ago. Since then I've been meaning to swing by but since I'm not too familiar with this side of New Manila, I keep putting it off. After consulting the Google Maps a number of times, I finally mustered the courage to finally paid this house-turned-restaurant cafe near Broadway Avenue.
I never mind eating breakfast food at noon time so I asked for their Eggs Benedict. Perfectly cooked poached egg resting atop buttery English muffins with some slivers of salmon. I sliced the egg every so gently and let the yolk glides and creates a mini-pool around the muffins. It's glorious! I also tried their Chocolate Waffle, nicely crispy on the outside when you bite into it but fluffy soft inside. I also liked the Cheesecake w/ Mixed Berries. Creamy and tartly and not too sweet.

CargoFish
classic fish & chips |
Sometimes, a simple meal like a Classic Fish & Chips is all I need. At CargoFish, they do their fish & chips exceptionally good. Lightly battered cod with fries and onions and a sweet-spicy dip to go along with your fish. Really good! I normally don't drink alcoholic beverages but this meal calls for one.

Emack & Bolio's
grasshopper pie |
Whenever I hear there's a new international franchise opening in Manila, I couldn't help but be excited. So when I heard that Emack & Bolio's has finally open its doors at Ayala Mall The 30th, I made plans right away to visit the ice cream shop that same week.

Park Avenue Desserts
white and pastel red colors dominating the interior |
almond roca and a hot choco |
I've been to Park Avenue Desserts before in Paseo de Magallanes and it's still like the whimsical vibe of the dessert cafe. They do offer quite a number of savory dishes but I only gravitate towards their sweet treats. The Almond Roca underwent an appearance upgrade but still as decadently good as ever. I wiped my plate clean in no time. Morsel and all.
