Taking My Nanay Out To Eat

food at Wildflour

My Nanay is not the kind of person who usually eat out. Especially on restaurants she has never heard of. Quite the opposite of me who's usually on a prowl every weekend. It's my way to distress after a hectic workweek. My Nanay usually busies herself on church activities during her "me" time. If ever she would eat out with her church buddies, it's usually the fast food chains that they zeroed in to. So on the very few occasion that I'm able to convince her to go out with me, I usually bring her to restaurants that's new to her but would not alienate her at the same time. I usually chose for her restaurants that has a homey feel to it and that promises a relaxed meal.

One of the restaurants that I would like my Nanay to try is Wildflour since I think the bakery vibe of the cafe would appeal to her. I ordered here the Reuben Sandwich which she finished off quite nicely.

It was rainy that day so we each shared a bowl of Cream Of Corn Soup. The inherent sweetness of the corn ringed with each sip. Truly, a comforting cup of soup this one. (Read from an IG post of a blogger that I'm following that they've already scratched this soup on their recently revamped menu which saddens me). And the Kimchi Fried Rice studded with pork slices that's rimmed with fat pleased me endless. But the kimchi rice, that rice! It flared my tongue with its spiciness that I have to gulped water every after spoonful and have my glass refilled a couple of times.

A sweet ending is always a treat. I should have ordered two desserts but my Nanay begged for me to order just one so we had the very light and fluffy Strawberry Shortcake. It's like eating a cloud. An exquisite, daintily sweet tasting cloud if you could accept that metaphor. But Nanay and I both loved it and we polished this cake in no time. And what better way to indulge with a cake of this dainty beauty but to partner it with a cup of Pistachio Au Lait, a drink that tasted just as exquisite as the cake.

Mom & Tina's

roast turkey, kani salad and chicken & spinach lasagna at Mom & Tina's

Another time, I was able to tag my Nanay along to have lunch at Mom & Tina's, another quaint-looking bakery cafe along E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue. We went there on a busy weekend and the place was packed but we luckily nabbed the remaining table that's still not accounted for.

My Nanay craved for some pasta so I ordered for her one of my favorites here, the Chicken & Spinach Lasagna. It's heavy and filling and still as good as I remembered it the first time I tried it. For myself I had the Roast Turkey, a hefty meal with the stuffing and the mashed potatoes, both blanketed with the gravy, veggies and a side of rice. We also shared a small size of their Kani Salad, squirted generously with their delectable Japanese mayo.

baked oreo cheesecake, coconut cupcake and latte

For the sweet ending of our delicious meal, we had the Baked Oreo Cheesecake. It was chilled when it graced our table resulting to a hardened crust. I should have requested to have it warmed and this could have been a spectacular dessert.  The Coconut Cupcake fared better. Light and spongy with a nice swirl of white icing topped with dessicated coconut.

I really do enjoy bringing my Nanay out and letting her experience some of the food I enjoyed eating when dining out. Though it seems unlikely, since she really can't give up her fondness with McSpaghetti and Cheeseburger Deluxe, an occasional trip with her to a  restaurant that I wanted her to try
