Peculiar as it may sound but I couldn't remember actually eating the durian fruit. I might have during my younger years but the only thing that I could recall was eating the candied version of it. I even urged my Tita to buy me some durian on her weekly trips to the market but she begged off. She's not a fan of durian, especially of it's notorious smell. Nor does the other members of my family. One of these days, I will be the one who will buy that durian from the market and I'll bring it home. Never mind if my household would look at me contemptuously after bringing such a fruit with a pungent smell.
I wasn't assailed with a horrid smell when this beauty of a glass of the Durian Frappe was brought to me. Quite honestly, this dessert drink was the main draw why I went here to Cafe France. In case the said drink isn't available, I may have gone elsewhere. I guess the powers that be was on my side that time since I was afforded an enthusiastic nod by the server when I asked if this frappe is available.
An incredibly rich, thick and creamy drink. I was hooked by it from the get go. The very distinct custard-like flavor of the durian is very there on each sip. I avoided sucking on the straw too much since I wanted to prolong this dessert nirvana that I'm having with this drink.
I was on a linguine streak that day since I had it on both soup and pasta. The Seafood Soup Linguine is a very hearty soup with all the necessary seafood trimmings. The Chicken Mushroom Linguine is a pretty decent pasta dish submerged in bechamel sauce with topped with chicken pieces. The chicken meat is still thankfully moist and tender.
Even if I'm already fully satisfied with the durian frappe, I still have room for dessert. The Peach Croissant satisfied me with it's creamy custard filling and tartly peach slices. My only regret was I ate this not early enough and let it sit there as I finish my soup and pasta. The flakiness factor of the croissant somewhat dissipated since I wanted far too long. Nevertheless, it's all good.
I just hope they didn't extract the durian frappe from their beverage line up. I sure would like to have some of it again soonest.
