Good meals should always be remembered with reverence, I'd say. Don't worry, I'll try to make this list a short as possible and will try to cut the needless babble so as not to bore you, I hope. =)
A Burger Meal To Go Back For Seconds
Pictured above is a meal that I had at 2nd's Restaurant. I just couldn't contain my excitement once my buns hit the cozy chair of the said restaurant. I've been meaning to try 2nd's for quite sometime now. And once you reached the second floor of the Wumaco Building, you slipped right through and it's door shuts behind you, you get this feeling of being in a conclave of some sort. Images of high powered business men in their sleek, expensive Armani suits or barong made in piña gathered in a darkened part of the saloon, engaged in a conspiratorial talk about stocks, dividends or some other obscure business jargon that's hard to decipher. But alas! The only other people in the room when I come here are two ladies in their sun dresses, chitchatting away on their favorite make up products on Shu Uemura.
Ooops! I'm getting all carried away again with this unnecessary banter. Of course, I'm here to tell you about the food. Is it worth it? Something to go back for seconds? A resounding yes would be my reply for the Maple Bacon Juicy Lucy Burger. A simple enough burger without much trimmings except for the crunchy bacon laced with maple syrup. But it all ends there. Once I bite into it, my knees slackened instantly. The burger retains it's juiciness even though it's one of the thickest that I've had in recent memory; and it was seasoned quite perfectly. And don't be surprised if you felt a sudden gush of sharp, salty liquid as you bite further since the burger was stuffed with cheddar. Eyes rolling now. The maple bacon creates that nice harmony of sweetness that cuts the cloy from all that meat. I've totally forgotten the Truffled Three Cheese Mac w/ Spanish Chorizo that I've ordered because of this burger. I occasionally took a sip of my apple infused martini then continued on wrecking havoc on this Juicy Lucy. Oh, how straight that one sounds! But never mind, I'm having a blast with this Lucy. And that remark sans any sexual overtones, mind you! And yes, the thick cut fries that came along with the burger is equally memorable, too. *wink*!

Mornings That Are Truly Rustic
I don't get to enjoy breakfast food served in restaurants as much as I would like. Plainly because I find it too much of a hassle preparing to leave so early (I'm tempted to type 'doll up' here. He-he!). I'm usually awake before sunrise but I still like to cuddle up in bed till late morning, browsing through the web with my old, trusty HP notebook or try as mightily as I can to finish the second book of Lord Of The Rings series that I read ever so sluggishly. So by the time I'm already out of the house on my usual weekend errands, the "breakfast menu" on most of the food establishments has already been tucked away. Bummer! That's why I'm grateful for food places that serve these comforting breakfast food day in and night out.
I made an exception with Rustic Mornings By Isabelo, however. Since this brunch place only opens from 8AM to 4PM, I went out of the house earlier than usual one Saturday weekend to search for it. What fueled this interest was the rather rustic photos (pun unintended) posted by Filipino writer Yvette Tan of the food she had here which includes waffles and omelette (if my memory serves me right) on her social networking site. I immediately asked my friend Jem (who is from Marikina) on how to easily get to Isabelo Drive by public transport. Thanks to her clear directions, I got here without that much of a hassle.
I was immediately taken by the surroundings of the restaurant once I step in. The trees, plants and all the lush greenery serves as a nice backdrop while the tintinabulation of chimes made from various shells and brightly colored bottles the were hang almost everywhere can be heard almost unceasingly. It was windy on this day I visited. With all these pretty things around me, it's only inevitable that I reach the apex of enjoyment from the food served here. Everything is superb. I especially like the Country Omelette, a very cheesy one with lots of chopped ham, diced potatoes and green bell peppers. Truly rustic. Not to be missed also were the cupcakes and the Key Lime Pie if in case you still crave for something sweet to nibble after an outstanding brekkie meal.

The Foie Gras Burger
chicken portobello foie gras burger at Dolcelatte |
My most favorite burger would still be the Demi Pound Foie Gras Burger at Lusso. But that doesn't mean I would shun away other burger contenders to capture my heart, since hamburger is my favorite food in the whole wide world. This beauty over here is the Chicken Portobello Foie Gras Burger from Dolcelatte Cafe. Though not as sophisticated taste-wise as the one from Lusso, I still like this burger well enough. It's sufficient, healthy tasting sandwich in spite of the foie gras, but filling. Eat it in tandem with the fries and you're in for a delicious treat.

The Perfect Pizza & Pasta Combo
pizza and pasta at CPK |
I rarely go to California Pizza Chicken. But if I do, it has to be in a group so we could order as much as we can since the menu here is quite extensive. Among their line up of pizza, I chose for us to have the Original BBQ Chicken w/ Nueske's Applewood Smoked Bacon. The name of the pizza alone is already rustic sounding. I even find it romantic. Something a couple would order for them to share. But I'm sharing this pizza with friends so that already dispels any illusion of romance. But it didn't dispel my fondness of this pizza. Teeming with flavor, one should hold a slice with both hands since the pizza tends to droop from its cargo of toppings (from the chicken pieces, Gouda cheese and smoked bacon). We order another pizza (I forgot which variant that was) but this one is my top choice.
The Kung Pao Spaghetti is also a big hit in CPK. A Chinese style spaghetti dish with peanuts, scallions and red chilies. We opted to add some shrimps and chicken for this order to make it more extravagant. The other pasta dish, the Portobello Mushroom Ravioli, is also not to be missed. It almost, almost eclipsed the kung pao spaghetti. It's that good! *wink*
