Bizu Bliss (And My Failed Attempt To Get The Heart-Shaped French Gateaux)

fish burger

It was Valentines Day. (Yeah, I know you would say its already March. But, hey! I still remember what transpired on that day loud and clear in my head. So, please spare me some leeway to tell you my story.) My sole purpose on coming to Bizu (Greenhills branch) was to try the Valentine cake offerings of this patisserie namely Romance and Allure. I braced heavy traffic and sweltering heat, holding on to the goodness that awaits and visions of velvety smooth dark chocolate ganache filled with strawberries or the sugar-free gianduja chocolate, hazelnut praline mousse with a twist of Dominique truffle. All assembled on heart shaped cakes as whimsical maybe as one would find in Wonderland, Oz or Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

As soon as I reached the place and my buns hit the cushioned seat, I immediately asked one of the waitstaff if there's any available Romance and Allure in personal sizes. To my horror, those cakes were not available (at least in personal sizes). I was able to spy in their glassed in display case grande sizes for the Allure and midis for the Romance. The problem was I'm dining solo and I even find the midis way too big in size to consume just by me. Out of desperation, I asked if the heart-shaped macaron de paris with strawberry buttercream filling and coated with pink sugar dust is available. A quick look back at the display case confirmed only the circular ones are available. I was so stunned I felt like I was hit by a truck and I almost bolted out the door. My mind raced and I initially thought of going to their Greenbelt or even their St. Luke's branch in BGC. However, when I remembered my bouts with the traffic and heat coming here, I reluctantly changed my mind. The disadvantages of not owning a car and not knowing how to drive. Sheesh! I asked for the menu and quickly leafed through it.

The food items that I ordered are not specific to any occasion so that means its available whole year round, I think. So, its only apt that I make this post way after Heart's Day. And even if I wasn't able to try those much-heralded heart shaped desserts, I still quite enjoyed the meal that I had.

viva vanilla

sole burger

The Viva Vanilla (P155.00) was a thick enough milkshake drink with a velvety smooth feel and not overly sweet. However, I was head-over-heels with their Sole Burger (P325.00). A mouth-watering sole fillet, scrumptious and crunchy on the outside but oh-so-juicy fish meat inside. Smeared with French remoulade that highlights the flavor of the sole, some lettuce greens and tomatoes ensconced in whole wheat burger buns. The burger looked and sounded safe. Healthy even but oh-so-sinfully delicious when you taste it. I'm going back for this, that's for sure!

french gateaux

blueberry chiboust

clichy

Of course, I did order their other signature French Gateaux. I made sure to get those desserts that I haven't tried before. The Blueberry Chiboust (P185/personal) has one of the creamiest texture that I've tried for a cheesecake of its variety with a very toothsome blueberry filling on top and a sturdy shortbread crust base. Nevertheless, it was the Clichy (P265.00/personal) that made me stay here in Bizu and not gone anywhere else when I spied its whimsical appearance in their display case. A joconde layered cake of almonds, raspberry, pistachio creme legere and rose gelee with mirror glaze. Its a dessert bent on to satiate sweet cravings of the most discriminate kind.

cappuccino single

As I sip my Cappuccino (P95.00) and finish my desserts, I overheard two teenage girls, (the BFFs sort) echoed my dismay when they were informed by another waitstaff that those same heart shaped desserts that I'm hankering for were not available for personal sizes. They both settled for a personal sized Samba, a mousse cake with Valrhona chocolate which they both shared. This got me thinking if those heart shaped cakes were really that popular and they just didn't anticipated how in demand those cake would be on this day when cupids frolic all over the metro.

One thing I declare though, I'm surely going to be back at Bizu. Maybe at their Greenbelt branch the next time and order the Afternoon Tea Set. It would be picture perfect divine, for sure! And crossing my fingers as early as now that I would be able to try the personal sized Romance and Allure cakes when the month of hearts make its comeback (with hopes that the Mayans were not right with their calendar, that is! He-he!).
