"I'm a little teapot, short & stout." |
Mey Lin has been the very first restaurant I went to after my bouts with an unrelenting sore gum that left me paralyzed from eating crunchy food and have to subsist on eating soft food that required little molar action. I remember I almost cried a tear when a member of the family brought home two big packages of chicharon and I could had none of it. It was a total nightmare and I wouldn't want to be on that same ordeal again.

On the very day that I felt confident enough to eat without feeling any hurt from my gums that much, I went to SM Megamall on a pretext to do some errands but in reality I just really want to have an excuse to go out and have my chance to eat at a restaurant of my choice. However, I'm still quite careful not to overwork my gums so I sought for restaurants that offers either soup, congee or noodles. I checked first Pho Hoa but it's jampacked that time. I almost went to Luk Yuen but decided to check out first The Atrium section of the mall if I could find something that would catch my interest. True enough, Mey Lin grab hold of me and would not let go.

At first, Mey Lin's classy look can be intimidating. But a quick glance of their menu and a short interaction with their friendly staff told me that my fears were unfounded. Mey Lin can be a friend that you can lean on. Especially if you're looking for a hearty soup with noodles hand pulled on site.
house tea |
seafood noodle soup |
They gave me a free house tea complete with a teapot set. I felt very much lady-like (it's just a feeling, so chill) as I daintily pour the hot liquid to my small ceramic cup. The searing hot tea and it's wonderful miasma put me in a relax state instantaneously.
When my hand-pulled noodle soup arrived, the Seafood Noodle Soup, I was floored. It's bursting with wonderful flavors from the sea that's painfully good. The hand pulled noodles had that certain bite-y characteristic to it but it easily yielded to my eager teeth. Definitely a winning dish for me here in Mey Lin.
shrimp tempura |
adobo rice |
Following my order of soup are my orders of Tempura Shrimps and Adobo Pork w/ Rice. While I find the Tempura Shrimps rather forgettable (I find it too dry and void of any hint of succulence), I could make do with the adobo rice which is pretty decent.
asado siopao |
almond jelly w/ lychee |
apple shake |
I couldn't resist not to order the Asado Siopao. I ate this more like a side dish to my adobo rice. As if the rice alone are not enough for my daily load of carbo.
Of course, a meal wouldn't be complete without the dessert. The Almond Jelly w/ Lychee somewhat satisfied my yearning for sweet. Coolness followed by the syrupy sweet and the natural sugary notes from the almonds and lychee.
The Apple Fruit Shake served as my welcome refreshment to absorb all of these food.

Since the rainy season is now in full swing in Manila, why not try the hand-pulled noodles soup being offered by Mey Lin. They have a wide selection of this kind of soup that only to try just one variant may prove to be of wanting more. A return visit to Mey Lin would definitely be in the horizon.
