pancakes at Milky & Sunny |
I favor breakfast food more than any other meal of the day. It's good way to jumpstart your day and breakfast food has a way to fuel you to brace yourself for the tasks that lies ahead. I admit, though, that I wake up fairly late so I wasn't able to enjoy it on cafe-restaurants that only offers breakfast food at a certain time. I'm still working on my body clock to wake up much earlier and savor the goodness that is breakfast. For the meantime, I'm thankful to those food establishments that offers breakfast meals all day. Like this shabby chic breakfast place in Kapitolyo, Pasig aptly named Milky & Sunny. To people like me who like breakfast but still find it quite a hassle to wake up early, this is great news.

The soothing powder blue and off-white color of this breakfast place captivates me right away. I bet even if the weather outside is gloomy and brooding, inside Milky & Sunny it will always be cheery and vibrant. If I would coin a phrase, it would always be a milky and sunny weather here. This breakfast place just inspire me to stay here all day and eat all the breakfast food that I want to my heart's content. =)

Banana Shake |
Some of the items on their menu may not be available due to limited inventory of stocks. To set an example, I initially asked for the Choco Peanut Butter Milkshake but was advised it's not available for order because they've ran out of ice cream for the milkshake. I also overheard in the middle of my meal the same staff informing the couple near my seat that the Eggs Benedict they're trying to order is no longer available because they've ran out of English muffins. It's something that I appreciate, really. At least they inform their customers right away, which is the exact opposite with the experience that I had at this bakery cafe located at the mall. It took them a full thirty minutes before they informed me of the unavailability of the dish I ordered. With me expecting during that whole time they're already preparing my order. But still, it would be so much better if they always have their ingredients in stock so the customers don't need to make amends on their initial choices.
Sorry for the digression. In replacement for the choco peanut butter milkshake, I had the Banana Shake (P130.00). It wasn't as thick as I would like and a bit watered down for my taste. The Cafe Latte (70.00) was just okay. It prepped me up for the wonderful breakfast meal that is to come.

Bacon & Spam Pasta |
Now for the fun part. I got the Eggs Benedict (P150.00)---yes I beat the couple next to my booth for this order---was a beauty to behold. It's a large English muffin resting on a pool of Hollandaise sauce (which I mistook initially for just melted butter because of its quite runny consistency). On top of the bread rest a slice of ham, some spinach leaves and a perfectly poached egg. A dash of paprika added a nice touch to it. Pierce the orb of yolk and watch the yellow liquid slide lazily and left yellow trails on the bread until it meet the Hollandaise sauce below that quite mirrors its color. As I watch this, I know right away I have one divine breakfast dish in front of me. I slice a piece, made sure all components (the muffin, the ham, the spinach, the egg and its yolk, the sauce) are all included. And was rewarded with the familiar bready texture of the muffin, the slight tangy flavor of the Hollandaise, the salty-smoky flavor of the ham, the slight bitterness of the spinach, rounded up by the silky smoothness of the egg yolk.
Also not to miss is their Bacon & Spam Pasta (P180.00). A very creamy dish with diced slices of Spam and bacon bits. Its creaminess rivals the Frutti de Mare dish that I tried at Cafe Lidia. Really good!
Strawberry & Cream Cheese Pancakes |

yummiest pancakes ever! |
But one must not leave Milky & Sunny without trying their signature pancakes. One of their bestsellers, the Strawberry & Cream Cheese Pancakes (P140.00) is a sure-winner. A triple decker discs of the most fluffiest pancakes ever. Spread in between layers were strawberry preserve and a lick of cream cheese. Pour the maple syrup on top for that added mouthwatering appeal. Delicious! Definitely, this is one of the best pancakes around and truly deserved to be their bestseller.
Milky & Sunny; Kapitolyo, Pasig |
My friend Pau said that breakfast food eaten at any time of the day other than in the morning doesn't appeal to him. He said that breakfast food should only be reserved during breakfast time. I disagree, since food this good should be eaten at any time of the day. I do agree however that a breakfast meal this good can be savored so much more if eaten at sunrise. Hoping to do that one day back here at Milky & Sunny.
